Pierre Cloete is the Commercial Director for BBC Studios (EMEA region) since 2019 and is responsible for delivering on the revenues, profit and growth for the set of BBC branded channels and services across sub-Saharan Africa, working closely with existing and new business partners.
Before joining BBC Studios Pierre Cloete was at Econet Media for 3 years as Digital Sport Director and acting CEO for Kwese General Entertainment and Kwese Sports where he launched Kwese Free Sports and the digital sports content hub.
In 2014 Pierre joined Ericsson as Head of Practice, TV and Media for sub-Saharan Africa, responsible for driving the engagement and sales of Ericsson’s TV and Media business in
the region. During this time he developed a new mobile video service for Ericsson and was instrumental in building and launching NuVu for Ericsson.
Over the course of 18 years, prior to joining Ericsson, Pierre held several positions in SuperSport and M-Net (Africa’s leading pay TV broadcaster) rising to the role of Director of M-Net Movies and M-Net General Entertainment channels. In this capacity, he led the launch of 16 dedicated movie channels (8 in Southern Africa and 8 in sub-Saharan Africa) as well as the expansion and running of 28 M-Net branded channels. He is also credited with overseeing the creation and development of several TV hit shows such as Survivor South Africa and MasterChef South Africa.
Born and raised in Johannesburg, Pierre holds a Honours Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
